Dorfstraße mit blühenden Bäumen. 1920s.

Signed in the lower right. 56.5 x 64.5 cm (22.2 x 25.3 in).

• Champion's landscapes captivate with their poetic, naive perspective and references to Dutch Impressionism.
• In 1932, Champion co-founded the “Sieben” (Seven) group of artists with Kanoldt, Schrimpf and Radziwill, professing a belief in “Neo-Romanticism”.
• In 1947, Champion was appointed professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, after he had devoted himself intensively to the landscapes of the Lower Rhine in his work.
PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. Dr. Gustav Rau (1922-2002), Stuttgart.

LITERATURE: Lempertz, Cologne, auction on May 25, 2013, lot 730 (illu.).
In good condition. With isolated tiny losses of color in the edges and in the margins of the image. Upper bar of the stretcher slightly showing through in the center on recto. Isolated small spots of faint craquelure in the margins.
The condition report was compiled in daylight with the help of a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
