Lot description
Ulrich Erben
1940
Scalini II. 1985.
Oil on paper(2 parts).
Signed on the lower sheet at the bottom right, as well as signed on the reverse here. Both sheets have hanging instructions on the reverse. On thin board. Sheets each: 61.5 x 86 cm (24.2 x 33.8 in), each the full sheet. Total dimensions: 123 x 86 cm (48,4 x 33,8 in).
• “The debate: abstract or representational, as old as it is, is irrelevant. Like the abstract, the representational consists of forms and colors.” (Ulrich Erben 1997).
• The artist participated in documenta 6 in 1977.
• Today, the artist’s works can be found in numerous public collections, such as the Museum Kunstpalast in Düsseldorf and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
In good condition. The paint application is minimally greasy (due to the technique used). The lower sheet has a slight crease in the lower left corner. Occasional minimal rubbing. The paint application itself is beautifully lively due to the matte surface and the visibility of the brushstrokes.
