Signed and dated in the lower right and upper left corners of the illustration. Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse. 59.3 x 74.7 cm (23.3 x 29.4 in).
Full proceeds from this special online sale of works from the collection of Prof. Dr. Manfred Pohlen and Dr. Margarethe Bautz-Holzherr, Marburg, will go to the Pohlen-Bautz-Holzherr Foundation. [CH].
• In the mid-1960s, Mattheuer achieved his institutional breakthrough: in 1965, the Staatliche Galerie Moritzburg in Halle became the first museum to acquire one of the artist's works.
• Mattheuer has always been considered one of the leading representatives of the Leipzig School.
• Works from this creative phase are now part of important museum collections, including the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main and the National Gallery of the Berlin State Museums.
PROVENANCE: Collection of Prof. Dr. Manfred Pohlen and Dr. Margarethe Bautz-Holzherr, Marburg (acquired in 1995).

In good condition. A few tiny dirt spots. Slight signs of rubbing around the edges, probably due to framing. Dark paint deposits on the lower and lower left edges. Minimal paint loss in the corners and on the left edge of the picture in the area of the hammock.
The condition report was prepared in daylight and with the aid of a UV light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
