• The expressionist Paul Adolf Seehaus captured the two sons of August Macke, Walter and Wolfgang, in a melancholic atmosphere of delicately balanced colors on Christmas 1914.
• A few months earlier, Seehaus lost his teacher and mentor, with whom he had been friends since 1910, on the battlefield.
• In 1913, Seehaus had taken part in the “Ausstellung Rheinischer Expressionisten” (Exhibition of Rhenish Expressionists) organized by August Macke in Bonn.
• For more than 100 years, the work has been in the possession of the family.
