Per Kirkeby
1938 - 2018
Untitled (Læsø). 1992.
Mixed media. Gouache, watercolor, and pastel on paper.
Dated “July 92” and inscribed with the location “Læsø” in the lower right. 75.3 x 64 cm (29.6 x 25.1 in), size of sheet.
[AR].
• A high-contrast watercolor that impressively captures Kirkeby’s expressive fusion of nature, color, and abstraction.
• The notation “Læsø” presumably refers to the work’s creation on the Danish island of the same name, known for its picturesque landscapes.

• Since 1980, the painter has owned a house there, just as Asger Jorn once did.
• Offered on the international auction market for the first time.
• Other works by the artist are held, among others, at the Museum of Modern Art, New York; the Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich.

The work is cataloged in the Per Kirkeby Archive at Museum Jorn in Silkeborg, Denmark. We are grateful for the kind information provided.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Michael Werner, Cologne/New York/Berlin.
Private collection, USA.

In good to very good condition. Due to the nature of the technique, the paper is slightly wavy and shows isolated traces from the production. Colors minimally faded in places, such as in the lower left margin. There is a very faint, barely noticeable crease in the lower left corner of the sheet.
