Lot description
Johannes Hüppi
1965
Ohne Titel. 2019.
Oil on canvas.
109.5 x 149 cm (43.1 x 58.6 in). [AW].
Full proceeds will go to the Pohlen-Bautz-Holzherr-Foundation.
• Hüppi's works usually focus on the universal, stereotypical woman in changing social roles.
• Picturesque landscapes, water, or museums serve as backdrops for his mostly erotic, surreal naturalistic visions.
• Johannes Hüppi finds his models and inspiration in the old masters of art history, including Gustave Courbet.
• The artist's works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt am Main, the Frieder Burda Museum in Baden-Baden, and the Würth Museum Collection in Künzelsau, among others.
PROVENANCE: Galerie Schwind, Frankfurt am Main (verso on the stretcher with the gallery label).
Collection of Prof. Dr. Manfred Pohlen and Dr. Margarethe Bautz-Holzherr, Marburg (acquired from the above in 2020).
In good condition. Very occasional slight rubbing at the edges of the image. The upper two corners of the image show very slight loss of tension in the canvas. The condition report was prepared in daylight and with the aid of a UV light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
