Lower left signed, dated and inscribed "Paris". On wove paper. 50 x 36 cm (19.6 x 14.1 in), the full sheet. [AW].

• A portrait of Walter Gramatté's beloved wife Sonia, notable for its strong color composition—her recurring portraits hold a significant place in the oeuvre of the artist, who died prematurely.
• In 2021, the Hamburger Kunsthalle will present a major retrospective of the long-forgotten representative of magical realism.
• Offered on the international auction market for the first time (source: artprice.com).

PROVENANCE: Otto Hermann Pauly, Hamburg/Aumühle (verso with collector's stamp L.4830).
Probably Dr. Ferdinand Eckhardt Collection, Winnipeg.

In good condition. The outer edges of the pages are slightly browned. The upper right corner of the page has a tiny loss of paper. Slightly wavy due to the technique used.
