Porträtstudie eines Herren. 1912.
Oil on cardboard.
With the ligated monogram in the upper right corner, dated “June 12” in the upper left. 49.5 x 40.5 cm (19.4 x 15.9 in).
PROVENANCE: Johann Mittermeier Collection, Munich/Mainburg (stolen from his depot in 1947, secured by the CCP Wiesbaden (with the number Wie 5257 and Mü. No. 45877 on the reverse), handed over to J. Mittermeier in Munich in 1948).
Probably private collection (until 1990: Neumeister).
Hamburg art trade (until 1999: Ketterer Kunst).
Private collection, Southern Germany (since 1999: acquired from the above).
Private collection, Rhineland-Palatinate (since 2002: DAWO Auctions).

In good condition. Trimmed along the upper edge of the image, partially affecting the monogram and date. Minor retouching visible in UV light, mainly in the background and on the nose. Rubbed from the framing. The cardboard appears to have been trimmed slightly along the upper edge of the image. The painting depicts a distinctive portrait of a man.
