Pastel and pencil.
Signed, dated and titled in the bottom, as well as monogrammed and dated in the lower left. On two sheets of wove paper, jointed by the artist in the center. 41.4 x 29.2 cm (16.2 x 11.4 in). [KA].
• Impressive and unforgotten: No other artist captures the dark sides of the human mind like Horst Janssen did.
• His versatile oeuvre of drawings, watercolors and prints made Janssen one of the most important graphic artist of the 20th century.
• In 1968, he received the Prize for Graphic Art at the Venice Biennile.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired in 1996, Galerie Brockstedt, Hamburg).
EXHIBITION: Janssen. Paranoia. 40 Pastelle, 40 Zustände desselben Gegenstandes, selbst, nature morte, Galerie Brockstedt, Hamburg, June 7, 1982, illustrated on p. 9 (with two labels on the mount).
