Herbst in Angeln. 1940.
Watercolor and chalks.
Signed, dated and titled in the lower right. On laid paper. 55.3 x 69.5 cm (21.7 x 27.3 in), the full sheet.

• An expression of Heckel's love for his adopted home on the Baltic Sea.
• A beautiful watercolor from later creative phase.
•During the war years, Heckel's landscape watercolors experienced an increase towards highly emotional mood paintings.

The work is registered in the Erich Heckel Estate, Hemmenhofen on Lake Constance. We are grateful to Mrs. Renate Ebner for her kind support.

PROVENANCE: Erich Heckel Estate.
Private collection, Berlin (obtained as a gift directly from the artist's wife in 1973).

In good condition. Sheet minimally discolored. Lower margin with a tiny split (5mm). Upper right with tiny isolated stains.
