Der Schlittschuhläufer. 1916.
Bronze with golden brown patina.
On the back of the base with the signature, the number and the foundry stamp “W. Füssel Berlin”. Ca. 24.1 x 27 x 15 cm (9.4 x 10.6 x 5.9 in).
Cast by art foundry Wilhelm Füssel, Berlin. [AR].
• Early small-scale sculpture by the avant-garde artist and film director William Wauer.
• He has been a member of the group of artists associated with Herwarth Walden's gallery “Der Sturm” in Berlin since 1912.
• Wonderfully buoyant, flowing movement with sharp edges and cubic forms.
• An aluminum copy is in the collection of the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin.
PROVENANCE: Galerie Werner Kunze, Berlin.
Private collection, Berlin (since 1984, inherited from the above).
LITERATURE: Uwe Rüth, William Wauer. Skulpturen und Gemälde, Basel 1979, p. 7 (illu., different copy).
Good overall impression. Some dark spots and discolorations.
