Lot description
Pico Veleta. 1995.
Cibachrome print laid on a plastic panel.
Signed, dated, numbered and titled on the reverse. From an edition of 4 copies. 135 x 172 cm (53.1 x 67.7 in). Frame: 144 x 179 cm (56,6 x 70,4 in).

• Axel Hütte is one of the most renowned representatives of the Düsseldorf School of Photography.
• The artist is known for his masterful ability to capture the poetic contemplativeness of nature—he himself refers to his work as “imagined landscapes.”
• Works by Axel Hütte can be found in major museum collections worldwide, including the Museum Folkwang in Essen, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, and the Museo Jumex in Mexico City.
PROVENANCE: Achenbach Art Consulting, Düsseldorf.
German corporate collection (acquired from the above in 1995).
EXHIBITION: Axel Hütte. Terra Incognita, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Palacio de Velázquez, February 5 - May 10, 2004; Fundación César Manrique, Lanzarote, June 10 - September 10, 2004, pp. 110-111 (illustrated).
The image has a few dust spots, probably caused by the photographic process. The image and the edges of the sheet are severely faded. The edges of the sheet are browned throughout the frame. If desired, the heavily faded print can be replaced by a new inkjet print on Ditone in consultation with the Axel Hütte studio at the buyer's expense (approx. €3.000 + VAT).
