Joseph Marioni
1943
Green Painting. 2001.
Acrylic on canvas.
Signed twice, dated, titled, and inscribed with the dimensions and the technique on the reverse of the folded canvas. 66.5 x 56 cm (26.1 x 22 in). [KA].
• Through his “dripping” technique, Marioni brings out the raw materiality of the liquid pigment.
• In his “Radical Paintings,” the artist, much like his contemporaries Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Barnett Newman, devotes himself entirely to color.
PROVENANCE: Galerie Mark Müller, Zurich.
Private collection, Bavaria (acquired from the aforementioned in 2001).
In the family’s possession ever since.
EXHIBITION: Joseph Marioni. Green, Galerie Mark Müller, Zurich, June 9–July 21, 2001 (with the gallery label on the stretcher).
In good to very good condition. The outermost edges of the image show very minimal surface wear due to framing. Slightly dusty overall.
The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source, and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
