1938 - 2018
Ohne Titel. 1988.
Gouache and color chalks over pencil.
Monogrammed and dated in the lower right. On Ingres d'Arches MBM laid paper (with watermark). 64.5 x 99.3 cm (25.3 x 39 in), the full sheet. [KA].
• Kirkeby's geological layers of earth open up to reveal a vibrant, scenic riot of color.
• The landscape impressions, condensed into sensual “structures,” are considered his most sought-after works.
• The artist is one of the most important European artists of his generation.
• His paintings can be found in the Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Centre Pompidou, Paris, and the Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich, among others.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, Frankfurt am Main (family-owned ever since).
In good condition. The sheet is slightly wavy due to the manufacturing process. There are a few small handling marks and studio marks on the right-hand white margin.
