Iasons Abschied. 2014.
Oil on canvas,, in the original artist's frame.
Ligated monogram in the upper right. Signed and titled “Eurydike” on the reverse of the canvas. Signed and titled “Eurydike” on the reverse of the stretcher, and with a direction arrow. 79 x 99.7 cm (31.1 x 39.2 in). [AH].
• Provenance traceable back to the artist.
• Overall concept: a symbiosis between the painting and the original artist’s frame.
• A break with pictorial tradition: straddling references to antiquity and the artist’s entirely unique iconography.
• Anchored in the artistic canon: Lüpertz began depicting the steel helmet as early as the 1970s.
• Works by the artist are held at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Moderna Museet in Stockholm.
The authenticity of this work has been verbally confirmed by the Markus Lüpertz Studio. We are grateful for the kind assistance.
PROVENANCE: BuchKunst Kleinheinrich, Münster (purchased directly from the artist).
Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired from the above in 2014).
In good condition. A few tiny, isolated traces from the production. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source, and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
