Theaterszene. Um 1910/11.
Watercolor on paper.
Monogrammed in the lower right. On off-white wove paper. 24.5 x 33.7 cm (9.6 x 13.2 in).

• Expressive composition from a series of theater scenes of Max Reinhardt productions.
• Painted in the vibrant metropolis of Berlin, where Nolde discovered the nightlife of theater, dance and vaudeville.
• Brilliant example of the dynamics of the graphic gesture and the independence of color.
The work is registered in the Ada and Emil Nolde Foundation, Seebüll, and has been included in the catalogue raisonné.
PROVENANCE: Hans Fehr (1911-1961, directly from the artist, family-owned until 1993)

In good condition. With a faint light stain and slight mount staining. Slight creases in the upper left corner. Edges all in all irregular, paper slightly wavy and minimally creased, due to the printing process.
