Signed, dated, titled, inscribed with the dimensions and technique, and marked “Nr V/III”, “top oben” and with a direction arrow on the reverse of the canvas. 100 x 95.5 cm (39.3 x 37.5 in). [CH].
• Pfahler's consistently cool approach to form, color and space permeates his entire artistic oeuvre.
• His paintings are characterized by a small number of unmistakably defined forms.
• Clearly contoured surfaces and concrete lines collide: blocks of color are sharply contrasted with minimalist black or white backgrounds.
• In 1970, Pfahler, along with Günther Uecker and Heinz Mack, represented the Federal Republic of Germany at the Venice Biennale.
