With the engraved signature and number, as well as the foundry mark, on the right lower leg. Typographically labelled with the details of the work on a label on the underside of the plinth. Copy 13 of 24. Height: 52.3 cm (20.5 in). Plinth: 43,5 x 30,1 cm (17,1 x 11,8 x 0,1 in).
Cast at Kunstbronsgieterij de Groeve, Merelbeke. [AW].
• Stephan Balkenhol’s figures: Reduced to the essence of the human – free of history and burden.
• His preferred protagonist: the stoic “everyman” in black pants and a white shirt.
• Like the Roman god Janus, this sculpture arouses curiosity and imagination through its austere reservedness.
