Karl Schmidt-Rottluff
1884 - 1976
Tessiner Bauernhof. Um 1949-1952.
Watercolor.
Signed and inscribed with the work number “4912” in the lower right, and titled on the backing board. On P.M. Fabriano wove paper (with the watermark). 48 x 66 cm (18.8 x 25.9 in), the full sheet.
[MH].
• From 1949 to 1953, Schmidt-Rottluff spent the end of each year with his painter friend Otto Ehrich in Ticino.
• A striking example of Schmidt-Rottluff’s masterful combination of luminous colors and formative black contours.
• The work displays a subtle fusion of nature and emotion, allowing the viewer to establish a deeper, almost meditative connection with the depicted Ticino landscape.
• Part of the same collection for approximately 60 years.

The watercolor is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation. We are grateful for the kind support.

PROVENANCE: Private collection, Berlin (in the possession of the family for approx. 60 years).

In good condition. Some small brownish spots in places. Overall, slightly browned and with minimal sunning around the edges.
