Signed and titled. One of 6 known copies. On sturdy wove paper. 15.3 x 10.2 cm (6 x 4 in). Sheet: 23,5 x 20 cm (9,2 x 7,8 in).

One of 6 known copies of this second state from a total print run of at least 20 copies. [AW]].
• Expressive stylistic break: With these heads, Emil Nolde breaks away from Naturalism and focuses on a stylized, expressive form.
• The “Egyptian Woman,” shrouded in a mysterious aura, is based on the 1910 painting “Pharaos Tochter findet Moses” (Nolde Foundation, Seebüll).
• Other copies of this second state are held by, among others, the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main and the Staatsgalerie in Stuttgart.
• This work was on permanent loan at the Franz Marc Museum in Kochel am See from 2017 to 2024.

In good, freshly printed condition. The lower edge of the sheet is slightly irregular. The corners of the sheet are slightly bumped. A few small brown spots and slight creases from handling. Some faint crease marks, particularly along the center of the left and lower edges of the sheet. A small, backed tear on the lower part of the right edge. The paper is slightly unevenly browned in places and has a faint watermark along the right edge
