Komposition. Um 1961.
Oil on canvas.
Signed lower right. Also signed and inscribed “Paris” on the reverse of the canvas. Inscribed with dimensions on the stretcher. 50 x 50 cm (19.6 x 19.6 in). [KA].
• Intriguing composition of geometric abstraction.
• The different materials lend the work a distinctive, tactile presence characteristic of Bott.
• Francis Bott is considered a representative of the “Second École de Paris,” the French “Informel.”
• Part of the same family collection for over 35 years.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, North Rhine-Westphalia (acquired in 1990, Lempertz).
Since then in family ownership.
LITERATURE: Lempertz, Cologne, Auction 649, 20th Century Art, May 25, 1990, Lot 42 (illustrated in black and white, plate 117).
In good condition. Small paint chip along the upper left edge. Tinyi isolated brown spots. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
