• Typical features of Fautrier's paintings from the 1920s: dark, undefined space in which the face floats and gains emotional depth.
• Exemplary of an experimental formal language full of powerful immediacy.
• Early heads can be found in the collection of the Insel Hombroich Foundation, the Musée Unterlinden in Colmar, and the Musée d'Art moderne de Paris.
• Part of an acclaimed private collection in Berlin for over 30 years
