Karl Fred Dahmen
1917 - 1981
Ohne Titel. 1979.
Mixed media on canvas.
Signed and dated on the reverse of the canvas. 110 x 81 cm (43.3 x 31.8 in). [AW].
• This striking monochrome work was created shortly after the artist moved to Preinersdorf in the Chiemgau region.
• In this final creative phase, Karl Fred Dahmen’s work regains its meditative, painterly intensity of expression.
• In 1959, he participated in documenta II in Kassel.
• Most recently, his artistic oeuvre has been honored with, among other things, a much-discussed retrospective at the Museum Küppersmühle für Moderne Kunst in Duisburg and at the Leopold-Hoesch-Museum in Düren.
The work is registered with Thomas Weber, Karl Fred Dahmen Archive, Cologne.
PROVENANCE: Galerie Hennemann, Bonn (gallery stamp on the back of the stretcher).
Private collection, Southern Germany.
In good condition. Numerous tiny white paint splatters, mostly in the lower part of the painting, likely resulting from studio conditions. Craquelure along the edges of the painting, with some slight flaking. This condition report was prepared to the best of our knowledge and belief under natural light and with the aid of a UV light source.
