Viadukt von Niolon. Um 1927.
Oil on jute.
Inscribed “Viaduct of Niolon / 2200” by the artist on a label on the reverse of the stretcher. 80.5 x 76 cm (31.6 x 29.9 in). [KA].
• Beneath the Niolon viaduct, the French Mediterranean transforms into an expressively shimmering blue landscape.
• In 1918, Morach joined the avant-garde Basel artist group “Das Neue Leben” (The New Life).
• The tall bridge piers and the distant city skyline underscore his playful experimentation with perspective and space.
• Otto Morach is one of the leading representatives of Swiss Cubism.
PROVENANCE: Artist's estate, no. 103 (Zurich 1974, stamped on the reverse of the stretcher with the estate stamp).

In good condition. There is a dent in the center right of the painting board. The stretcher frame is slightly visible on the recto in the center top. Overall, there is minor color loss, likely caused in the studio. There is hairline craquelure in places. The condition report was prepared in daylight and with the aid of a UV light source to the best of our knowledge and belief.
