Signed and dated in the lowe left . Titled and dated on the reverse by a hand other than that of the artist. On firm wove paper. 69.5 x 50 cm (27.3 x 19.6 in), the full sheet. [KA].
• Large-format, vibrant watercolor with expressive forms and brilliant colors.
• Highly emotional: Schmidt-Rottluff impressively captures the inner life, longing, and hope of the female figure gazing toward the horizon.
• The depiction of man in dialog with nature is a recurring theme in the artist's work.
• From 1920 onwards, Jershöft on the Baltic Sea became a central source of inspiration for the artist and an important retreat for his creative work.
• Other watercolors from this creative phase can be found in important museum collections, including the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Städel Museum in Frankfurt am Main.
