Bernard Aubertin
1934 - 2015
Rouge-flamme. 1972/76.
Mixed media on panel.
Signed, dated, and titled on the reverse, as well as inscribed with the dimensions and a direction arrow. 100 x 100 cm (39.3 x 39.3 in).
• Striking monochrome relief in vibrant colors.
• Through the color red, the artist finds his way to fire: “Through red, I feel I identify with fire.”
• Aubertin’s works are accentuated, three-dimensionally luminous bodies of color.
• The resulting fragmentation of the surface illustrates the power inherent in the creative process.
• Bernard Aubertin is considered an important representative of the “ZERO” artist group and has been featured in major exhibitions dedicated to the group, including in 1962 at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, and in 2014 at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, France.
Private collection, Southern Germany (since 1994, Ketterer Kunst).
In the family’s possession ever since.
LITERATURE: Ketterer Kunst, Munich, 197th Auction, Modern Art II, June 6, 1994, lot 534 (with a black-and-white illustration).
In good condition. Some minor, tiny areas of paint flaking, primarily along the edges of the image. A tiny mark from the production in the lower right corner. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source, and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
