Gottfried Mairwöger
1951 - 2003
Alameda. 1983.
Oil on canvas.
Dated and titled on the back of the stretcher. 171 x 109 cm (67.3 x 42.9 in). [AW].

• An expressive, gestural work with radiant colors.
Gottfried Mairwöger is one of the most important figures in Austrian abstract painting.
• Similar to Helen Frankenthaler, he used heavily thinned oil paints in the 1980s to create opulent color fields and streams of color.
• Works by the artist are at, among others, the Albertina, Vienna; the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston
.

PROVENANCE: Galerie Ulysses, Vienna.
Private collection, Munich (acquired from the above in 1984).

In good condition, with vivid colors. Slight scuffing in places. The yellow area contains paint splatters resulting from the production process. There is a small, faint indentation in the canvas in the lower left corner of the painting. The condition report was compiled in daylight with the aid of a UV light source, and to the best of our knowledge and belief.
