Signed and inscribed with the work number “1806 a”. Stamped with the Feininger Estate seal on the backing board, inscribed “G.W. No. 520” by hand. On fine, brownish Japan paper. 15.1 x 23 cm (5.9 x 9 in). Sheet: 21,8 x 28 cm (8,5 x 11 in).

• The artist’s most significant prints were created during his intensive creative years between 1918 and 1920, and his first woodcuts in 1918.
• Feininger taught himself the technique of woodcut and is today considered one of the masters of this craft.
• In the year the work was created, Feininger met Walter Gropius; a year later, he was appointed to a teaching position at the Weimar Bauhaus
.

In good condition. Firmly mounted on a backing board at the upper corners of the image. The lower two corners of the image show two small areas of paper loss due to the mounting. Slight mount staining.
